As Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine Dr. Randy Birken is not simply a board certified gynecologist specializing in pelvic reconstruction, but a teaching professional who continues to instruct other doctors to be on the leading edge of woman's health issues. Dr. Birken has advanced training in laser vaginal surgery and labiaplasty procedures and is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons and the American Academy of Cosmetic Gynecologists.

Credentials

After graduating cum laude from Adelphi University in 1972 with his Bachelor of Arts degree, Dr. Randy Birken went on to earn his medical degree from Boston University in 1976.

He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in 1980 while serving as chief resident. Board certified in 1982 and re-certified in 1995, he is currently a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons, and member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Gynecologists and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons.

In addition to his private practice in gynecology, uro-gynecology, and laparoscopic pelvic surgery, he is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Birken completed a Masters in Liberal Arts at Houston Baptist University in 2000 and has taught undergraduate literature as well as given literature lectures to medical students.

Dr. Birken has been published in both Medical and Non-medical publications such as the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ob-Gyn News, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Journal of Graduate Liberal Studies, and Dermanities. His collection of medical themed short stories, A Harvard Death, is currently in circulation as well as two non-fiction books to be released in 2008.
